Choosing temporary Mercosur residency only because it looks cheaper can leave an important need for later. The useful question is: what will you need to sort out during your stay in Paraguay?
This route is in the comparison only if the Mercosur Residence Agreement covers your nationality. People outside the agreement use Law 6.984/2022. A lower fee and a shorter list help when the category matches your goal. The decision also has to look at later stages, not only at the first payment.
A category to weigh against your goal
The DNM states a validity of two years, with no extension, for temporary Mercosur residency. On the same route, the cédula can be requested only after permanent residency. Consider that sequence before you plan services that require the cédula.
Someone who plans to study or live without needing that document at the start may find a fit on the Mercosur route. That is a planning assessment, not a universal recommendation. To compare it with Law 6.984, read the article on the two routes.
List what you need to sort out
| Goal | What to confirm before you choose |
|---|---|
| Studying | Admission and registration documents the institution requires |
| Organizing money | The bank product and the documents it accepts for your profile |
| Requesting other documents | Whether they depend on the cédula, and the authority’s requirements |
| Staying in the country | The schedule and documents for the later application |
Do not turn common difficulties into absolute bans. Whether a financial product is accepted, for example, is confirmed with the institution. Do not announce that every account will be impossible, or guaranteed, only because of the name of the residency.
Compare the full cost
Include professional fees, documents, official fees, and travel. A lower amount at the start does not necessarily describe the cost of every stage of the project. It also does not mean the other route is required for every person.
An older article carried a package that included official fees. That historical offer should not be used as a current proposal. At Legaliza Paraguay, official fees and outside costs stay separate from the professional fee. The team confirms the quote and the scope before you hire us.
Plan permanent residency from the start
Keep the dates on your card and leave time to review the documents before they expire. The permanent residency guide is the reference for that preparation. Do not treat permanent residency as an automatic renewal of the temporary document.
If the plan for the move is still open, compare two scenarios: what you need to sort out now, and what can wait for a later stage. That conversation is usually more useful than choosing a package because of a promise of speed.
How the team helps with the choice
In the first conversation, explain your nationality, your goal, and whether you need a cédula. The team sets out the differences and the limits of the plans, without guaranteeing eligibility, approval, or a timeline. The requirements of your application and the rules of the institutions involved are checked case by case.
