Hague apostille: prepare the documents for Paraguay

Short answer

An apostille certifies the origin of a public document, not its content and not the approval of an application. Check the details and the requirement of the procedure before you apostille, so you are less likely to pay again for a corrected document.

The apostille often shows up in a move plan after the certificates are already set aside. The check has to start earlier. If the document needs a correction or a new issue, apostilling the wrong copy can mean doing the work again.

What an apostille does

According to Brazil’s National Council of Justice (CNJ), the apostille certifies the origin of the public document, such as the authenticity of the signature and the capacity of the person who signed. It does not certify the content and it does not guarantee that a residency application will be granted.

It also does not fix a wrong detail and it does not extend the validity of the document. “It is already apostilled” is not enough to know whether a document is ready for a given procedure. The competent authority is the one in the country that issued the document. This article does not name that authority for every country. If the document was not issued in Brazil, the team confirms the list for your case with you.

A sequence for organizing the preparation

  1. Identify the procedure and check the list that applies to your case.
  2. See whether you already have the right version of the document.
  3. Review the name, parentage, dates, and civil status before you request the formality.
  4. Confirm with the authority or the notary how to present and validate that document.
  5. After it is issued, check the apostille and keep the receipts with the matching certificate.

That sequence is an organizing guide. The form that is accepted depends on the document and on the destination authority. Do not use someone else’s list as permission to apostille any copy.

If the document was issued in Brazil

Issuing a certificate is one step. Preparing it for use abroad is another. For police records, the official Federal Police service lets you request the certificate. Whether an apostille is needed depends on the procedure that will use it.

Use the official portals for issuance and validation. The CNJ publishes channels for validating Brazilian apostilles. Check the official address listed in the sources and the details tied to your document. A digital file or a code does not remove the need to check that the apostille matches the document you will present.

Before you pay for a service, identify whether the amount is for the public document, the notary formality, shipping, or guidance. The CNJ and gov.br links in the sources apply to documents issued in Brazil.

If you find a mismatch

Stop preparing that piece and ask the issuer or the responsible notary how to correct it. Do not try to alter an official document digitally.

Plan the time and the budget without an old package

There is no single price that describes every certificate, notary, and family expense. Ask for an itemized quote and confirm issuance and shipping before you book the trip to file. The site does not publish a preparation time for countries other than Brazil.

The Hague apostille guide has the site’s guidance. If your goal is residency, also read the temporary residency guide so the preparation matches the right application.

What the team can do

The residency plans include guidance on preparing documents. For the team to handle certificates and apostilles in Brazil, there is a separate evaluation and quote. The support organizes and checks the stages you hire. It does not include a guarantee of acceptance or approval by Migraciones.

Adapted from the Medium article of 02/02/2025, with an editorial review and a check of the listed sources on 30/10/2026. The English version explains the apostille for documents issued in any country and keeps the CNJ procedure only for documents issued in Brazil.

Frequently asked questions

Does the apostille guarantee that residency will be approved?

No. The apostille and the review of the application do different jobs. The decision stays with the authority that receives the documents.

Does an expired certificate become valid again after it is apostilled?

No. Brazil's CNJ states that an apostille does not extend the validity of the document. Do not treat the apostille as a renewal.

Are issuance, the notary, and guidance the same cost?

No. Ask for each service to be itemized and confirm the amounts before you authorize the preparation.
